Kakistocracy - Cast Aside Your Chains And Dance

After several EP and split releases and two US tours, Ashville, NC’s KAKISTOCRACY’s brand of anarcho-punk has matured into the powerful and complex sound represented by their first full-length release. A limited run of 300 copies were available for their 2004 US tour, but complications prevented a full pressing until now. Those lucky few who have heard the tour edition copies, will soon be joined by those up until now uninitiated in their appreciation for how original and fresh sounding this band is. KAKISTOCRACY have just completed recording for a split album with CHRONICLE A/D (ex-ANTI-SCHISM, INITIAL STATE, etc.), also to be released on Profane Existence Records. There is also talk of an impending tour with Sweden’s TO WHAT END? More later...

Cave Canem - Cave Canem

I had never heard of the band until I got this and now I see their name a little here and there. If it's because they're very up-and-coming or if it's just that I recognize it now I don't know. Probably the former.
> Musically Cave Canem are walking somewhere in the middle of being very boring and very good. This is often not in favor of the band, and so is not the case here either, but it's not as negative as it can seem. You see, I still think it's a good tape. The production is dark and heavy and the music is powerful with your mandatory dense and hoarse vocals. Nothing to complain about there, but I can't help but feel that Cave Canem are missing that little extra to make a long lasting impression.
> Even with all that said I find their crusty, käng-ish mid-tempo hardcore good enough to make an impression, even though I would like a little more original and/or worked through songs to make that impression last longer. They have some vinyl coming so we'll see what they can do on those as this is good enough to leave a wish to hear more, but they need to shape up to make me wanna get a lot more.
> They are from Germany and sing in German, which suits the music very good. English translations are provided in the cover of this pro printed tape.

Nice joint 7" of two very interesting political crusty punk bands from Germany that play a sort of dark and downtuned "modern" neo crust without sounding similar and without sounding too much of a clone. It´s pretty interesting, so are their semi political, weight-full lyrix and the artwork is stunning. round up this is highly recommended

Contravene & Svart Aggression (split)

"Funny thing is that I'm so crazed with Contravene that I didn't realize this was a split. I mean Svart is always Swedish, but it wasn't until I listened to their side and thought - since when did Shelly start singing in Swedish - before I realized this was a split record. Duh! Thing is that it's such a good split - which pairs up two awesome bands who are very similar in sound and style. Contravene - as I said are my favorite of the season! Bringing back the classic anarchopunk style with heavy power but no crust or metal. Her voice is awesome. It's powerful and she can sing! There are also two other voices that add to the power. Musically they've got a light and powerful sound, with guitar melody that makes it super catchy. There are comparisons running through my head, but I can't quite name them. If you like your anarcho-peace punk - this band is where I'm placing all of my hope! Svart Aggression are rad because they also have female vocals - dual male-female actually. They've got a similar style of power and energy mixed with catchy melody. The accents are distinct and the male vocals are pretty gravely and the guitars are slightly heavy and metallic - and a bit more in the ultimate crust style. What an awesome split!!! These two bands rule and I'm loving the anarcho-punk!!!" (-Chris/Slug and Lettuce #66)
