Mass Grave - Survival Of The Richest

After the break up of Goat and Woodys thrash punk band TRENCH RATS in 2001, they began to jam and write songs for a band that wouldnt even play a show for nearly 1 and a half years. They met Lenny who soon after made the move from the island to Vancouver. He had some brutal yelps, and was also very tall, so he was a perfect fit. With no luck finding a drummer, they recorded a 7 song never released demo with Woody on bass and vocs, Lenny on vocs, and Goat on guitar and drums. They played their first show with this line up. Grinders NECKBEERD from northern B.C. had just moved to Van, so Hesher was asked to fill in on skins. Hesher, also being relatively tall, fit the mould well. So there they were, 4 tall stoners with crusty dreams of grinding the country side. Massgrave recorded their second demo CHUD DEMO, and soon after the split CD with NECKBEERD, and their first Canadian tour.

In 2003, Massgrave released their first EP Survival of the richest, on Barrage of Salt record out of Seattle, and toured the US and Canada for 6 weeks. Meeting Phoneix grinders WARFAIR? along the way, it was agreed a split release was muchly needed. 2004, MG / WARFAIR? Split was released on Coughing Up Records in Phoneix. After a year of local shows and jamming, Massgrave was ready to hit the road again. With 4 weeks in the US and few Canadian dates, they recorded a full length LP People are the Problem, which soon after was released on Unrest Records out of Edmonton Alberta.

Recently, Massgrave recorded material for 3 split 7 inches. MG / PRETTY LITTLE FLOWER (TX) is being self released, and should be out soon. Splits with POSER DISPOSER (SASK), and GLOBAL HOLOCAUST (MONTREAL) will be released on Unrest Records, by late summer.

50,000 doobies, and 50, 000 beers later, Massgrave is still goin strong, with plans of future albums and tours to come. Stay the fuck tuned!!!!!

Album Review:
This a treat for me, it's not often I get to hear bands I haven't heard of of and in this issue I get to hear 2 releases from the mighty Massgrave!! Still with a slight influence from Disrupt, I think Massgrave has taken the crust/punk crossover scene to a new level!! With the instensity of this album, they're making their mark on the underground scene, even crossing over to grindcore, and even som e open minded death metal fans would love this LP! Also comes with a huge poster! This bands needs to be heard!!
